A Key Partner

The law enforcement community has always been a key partner in Oakland County's traffic safety goals.  With their cooperation, the Traffic Improvement Association of Michigan (TIA) has been able to apply for and receive traffic safety funds through the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning for numerous years.  Currently, Oakland County is participating in the State of Michigan's Safe Communities program.

Safe Communities

Overtime Traffic Enforcement

Proactive and visible traffic enforcement has been, and continues to be the cornerstone of Michigan's traffic safety efforts.  In an effort to achieve the best results with limited funds, the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning awards traffic safety grant funding based on a combination of population, frequency of fatal and serious injury crashes, and media reach.  It is for these reasons that Oakland County received Safe Communities Funding during FY 2011-2012.  Qualifying agencies in Oakland County receive grant funds for overtime enforcement in two areas: Click it or Ticket safety belt enforcement and Over the Limit Under Arrest alcohol enforcement.  State, county, and local law enforcement agencies will conduct traffic enforcement mobilizations during holiday periods from October 2011 through September 2012.
